Understanding Your Bill

Your electricity is one of the few commodities that you use first and pay for later. In fact, the electric bill for your home is for usage during the previous month, and the due date is 21 days after the bill is printed.

The charges are your electric bill are:
The bill is based on energy usage (amount of kilowatt-hours), along with a Customer Charge fuel adjustment charge (based on wholesale power costs), customer charge (minimum monthly fee regardless of energy usage), environmental surcharge (required to meet federal standards), and any local government taxes (such as school tax).

Members who are disabled or retired and receive Social Security payments may have their billing cycle changed to the 10th of the month. (the cost of having electric equipment in place regardless of your usage),

Electric bills are:

  • Due within 15 days of the billing date; and
  • Considered delinquent 15 days after the billing date.

Without prior agreement, a member's service may be disconnected if payment is not received 27 days from the billing date. A delinquent notice will be mailed stating the disconnect date.

Please contact Citizens Electric prior to the due date of the bill if you are having difficulty paying your bill as required.
