Have a Backup Plan for Prolonged Outages
Citizens Electric cannot guarantee that scheduled maintenance or planned work will not result in a service interruption. We encourage all members to have a plan in place in case of an electric outage.
For the latest updates, it may be helpful to visit our online outage map. The map is regularly updated with current information about outages.
Have a Power Backup
Outages can occur without warning. Though the our team makes every effort to quickly restore power, we cannot always provide a specific time frame for when your power will be restored. If you use medical equipment, consider obtaining a power backup, such as a battery or generator.
In a worst-case scenario, such as a significant weather crisis like a tornado or flood, make a plan in case you need to evacuate to an alternate location. These types of weather events can result in outages lasting several days.
Prepare an Emergency Supply Kit
A supply kit can be useful if you become confined to your home, are without power for an extended time, or must evacuate as a result of severe weather. Keep the kit updated and readily accessible for safety, comfort and convenience. It is especially important if you have a baby, small children, or pets in the home.
All household members should know where the kit is stored. Replace food, water, medical supplies and batteries as needed. Pack the essential items you may need if you have to evacuate your home in an easy-to-carry container. Don't forget essential prescriptions or other specific health-related items that may be essential to you or your family members. Here are a few items to consider including in your kit.
-
Battery-operated radio
-
Flashlights
-
First Aid Kit
-
At least one gallon of water per person, per day, for drinking and sanitation.
-
Minimum 3-day supply of non-perishable food that requires no refrigeration or preparation, and little or no water.
